He leads Harmonic’s strategy and guides the evolution of the design practice. Patrick takes pride in creating a studio environment where practitioners have a strong voice in strategic direction and the space to experiment with how they work with one another and clients. As a trusted executive advisor, he partners with leaders to help organizations reimagine services and mature service design capabilities.
Before co-founding Harmonic, Patrick was the Managing Director at Adaptive Path, the Head of Service Design at Capital One, and the Chief Experience Officer at Macquarium. His body of work spans innovation, servitization, journey transformation, and design management. He has worked in industries as varied as retail, healthcare, financial services, consumer goods, travel and tourism, government, and the non-profit sector.
Patrick is a teacher at heart.
Patrick speaks and writes regularly on service design’s value and how to create better working conditions for service designers to thrive. Along with co-author Chris Risdon, he shares his design philosophy and practical applications in Orchestrating Experiences: Collaborative Design for Complexity. His book has received wide praise across academia and industry for its approaches to harmonizing experiences and the organizations that deliver them.
In his two-decade-plus career, Patrick has taught thousands of North American and European practitioners service design, design strategy, design research, and interaction design. Patrick’s many passions—storytelling, film studies, and improv—often influence his design work.
